11 kind of creepy baby names, just in time for Halloween
by Carolyn Robertson posted in Parenting
For some people, Halloween is the very best time of year. The creepy costumes, the scary movies, the dark and stormy nights. And, of course, the candy.
Halloween's roots are thought to be connected to the 2,000-year-old Celtic festival of Samhain. The festival was celebrated on November 1, which was the start of the calendar year, and also the beginning of winter, which back then brought cold and hardship, sickness and death. According to History.com, ?the Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred.?
Though traditions have changed throughout the years -- trick-or-treating has replaced the sacrifice of crops and animals over bonfires, thankfully! -- the spooky aura of the season, and that general feeling of creepy otherworldly unease remains. That's why this is the perfect time of year to explore some dark and downright bloodcurdling baby names. Even the most devoted fan of Halloween horror probably wouldn?t dare to embrace some of the more gruesome baby name options. After all, little Morticia and Lucifer might be met with some surprise on the playground (both do appear in BabyCenter?s baby name database, though!). There are plenty of other, subtler but still super spooky names to choose from. Here are some favorites...
