Apparently it's National Puppy Day. When our dog, her name is Birdie, was a new puppy I couldn't get over how much it felt as if we had a baby in the house again. I realize this comparison drives some people absolutely crazy with rage. But keep in mind, I have had babies, and I know full well raising a baby human is way more demanding than raising a baby dog. Yet still, some similarities are undeniable.

Puppies, like babies, ground you. Sure, you can't stick a baby in its crate and go to the movies, but there are so many other ways having a puppy feels a lot like having a newborn.
It's all fun and games when you first bring the puppy home and everyone is offering to help. Then comes the day you are home alone, just you and your puppy, and the fun and games are over. While you are trying to work,that little dog eats everything in sight, and you might find yourself thinking "Whose bright idea was this"" I may or may not have ever said that about one of my daughters when they were in the throes of the witching hour. Here are a select few of the ways a new puppy reminds me of a new baby, or worse:
1. Suddenly we're talking about poop and pee again, a lot.
2. Naming your puppy can be agonizing and start family wars. You can also have dog name regret. And total strangers will have opinions about the name you choose for your dog. "Birdie" But she's a dog""
