18 "virtuous" baby names that are worth a second look
by Carolyn Robertson posted in Pregnancy
Picking the perfect baby name can be hard.
It should be familiar, but not too common. It should sound good with your last name, as well as on its own. It should be free of any potential nickname or acronym disasters.
When you finally find a name that checks all of those boxes, you'll probably want to quickly check its meaning to make sure there are no surprises on that front.
See what I mean" It's not easy.
If you need a little help, you might want to look way, way back to the time of the Puritans in the late 16th century. The Puritans had an interesting take on baby names, choosing very literal monikers that embodied certain values or religious beliefs. They weren't all winners - names like Joy-in-sorrow, Fear-God and Die-Well might make for an awkward first day of Kindergarten nowadays. Some of the virtue baby names favored by the Puritans, though, are quite lovely - and definitely worth a second look.
