3 preschooler gifts that flopped last year (and 3 that didn't)

I love practical but fun gifts for my children like sleeping bag, beach chair, new sheets, soccer net etc. I occasionally push myself to switch it up and pick a gift that is purely fun. At times it works out and my kids play with that toy forever, but we've had plenty of flops over the last year.
Here are the best worst toys my kids (never) played with:
The Flops
1. Discovery Kids Construction Fort (Amazon, $33.44)
This fort building set had so much promise, but it just never worked right for us. The pieces quickly became weapons in our house, and any fort we built never lasted more than a few minutes.
2. Pie Face game (Amazon, $14.88)
I actually think this game would be really fun for an older preschooler, but last year at age 4 I think my son was a little too young. He liked playing the game when my husband and I were getting whipped cream in our face. As soon as it was his turn though and he got whipped cream in his eyes, it was over. The game rotted at the very back of our game shelf until it finally met its death by trash can. 3. Strider Balance Bike (Amazon, $89.99)
My mom friends rave about balance bikes and how they make graduating to a real two wheel bicycle so much easier. Ours have been totally flops! My daughter can balance on it just fine but she finds it boring and would much rather ride her baby sister's tricycle or her big brother's old bike with training wheels. We needed this for such a short time that ...
