3 ways to help the moms who need it most on Mother's Day

Homeless mothers have all the same problems you do. And a whole lot more. If middle-of-the-night breastfeeding, teething, or potty training seem tough to you now, imagine having to go through all these things without a reliable kitchen. Or a place to wash your kids' clothes. Or knowing where your family is going to sleep tonight.
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 41 percent of the homeless population is made up of families, which means there are hundreds of thousands of kids and parents with nowhere to go.
It's overwhelming to think about. But there are ways you can help. They might seem like small things to do, but they can make a big difference in another mom's life.
1. Donate your stuff: As you parent your child, you'll notice how quickly you whip through gear. No sooner has your child grown into his stroller than he's outgrowing his car seat, and so on. Children in homeless families outgrow their stuff at the same rate, and they can't just go to Target for replacements.
In almost every city, there's a charitable organization that wants that stuff you no longer need. Searching online for "[your city] donate baby gear" will usually turn up something, or you can look for charities in your local Yellow Pages or ask around.
