5 important things to discuss with your spouse before you've got a tween

My oldest kiddo is in middle school this year, so while I'm still trying to get my 4-year-old to not wear a pull-up at night I'm simultaneously dealing with "tween" problems like cell phone usage, social media etiquette and (gasp) BOYS! (And don't even get me started on my 9-year-old sandwiched in between who regularly bathes himself in cologne before school.)
Some of the challenges of having a tween-ager have definitely caught my husband and me off guard. I know I sound like an old fart, but raising a kid/tween/teen today is a totally different ballgame and we have found ourselves dumbfounded on several occasions. To that end, I thought it might be helpful to help others learn from our naivete, so here's a list of all the stuff I wish my husband and I wish we would've discussed together before the tornado that is a tween-ager hit our house: 1. Sleepovers - what will our rules be when our kids want to have a sleepover with friends" We were both fine with hosting sleepovers at our house, but the first time our daughter got an invitation from a family we didn't know all that well, we looked at each other like deer(s) in headlights. Do we let her go" Who ARE those people REALLY" Do they own guns" Are there older siblings" Is there a Red Room of Pain""" These questions and so many more went unspoken as we stared at each other in complete and utter first-timer confusion.
