5 simple solutions for the baby clothing shuffle

My daughters are bigger-than-average girls. My mother-in-law told me that I'd need to take my first daughter's age and double it to get her correct size. I didn't heed her advice until it became obvious that even bumping up one size was not enough.
I have lots of pictures of her squeezed into outfits that, I recognize now, were much too small for her. Oh, and did I mention we cloth diaper" That means that her more-sizeable-than-most booty was even more expansive with that extra cloth padding.
Vivianne grew so fast. Here I am squeezing her into 12-month clothes when she was 9 months old.Â
So, I've adjusted my expectations and Evie, my 9-month-old, is now wearing 18-month-old clothes and Vivi, my 3-year-old, is in size 6. With two growing girls, I'm constantly moving new clothes in and old clothes out, but I was not prepared with a system to manage it all. I have had days weeks with various sized clothing hanging out in separate "toss, give, keep" piles. Sometimes it just feels overwhelming. I don't know how many outfits we've "lost" when they've been forgotten in the diaper bag for more than two weeks.
In order to keep it from piling up I try to follow these basic guidelines:
1. Keep it simple. Be strict on how many outfits you have on hand per kid. Americans throw away 57 pounds of clothing each year. If we keep it simple now we're modeling a more simple lifestyle for our kids.
