5 things I wish I'd done when I started breastfeeding

Part of the challenge of becoming a new mom is that you have to do everything for the first time all at once. Your baby's first diaper change and bath and feeding and myriad other firsts all happen in a very short period of time...and all while your own body is still trying to recover and you're getting to know this baby you just birthed. It's a lot to take in.
Looking back, there are a few things I wish I had done from the first time I breastfed. It actually took a while to find my groove and get comfortable...the good news is that since I had to do it once every three hours or so, I got plenty of practice.
Here's what I wish I'd done in those early days of breastfeeding:
1. Have water on hand Like, A LOT, of water. So much water you'll wonder if it's humanly possible to get it all in your body. My hospital sent me home with a 32-ounce water mug, and I'd go through almost the entire thing every time I nursed my baby. You get sooo thirsty and it's nice to have the water right next to where you plan to sit (or a helpful partner who will bring the water to you, if you should forget). If you're feeling saucy, drop a lemon or lime slice in there because this is what constitutes excitement now that we're parents.
2. Have snacks ready, too
I liked things like crackers or granola bars...for some reason, graham crackers tasted incredibly good when I was breastfeeding (is this why I needed all that water" Because of my dry snacks")....
