5 things to have on hand for when your baby gets sick

Any parent will tell you this: Your baby will never get sick at noon on an average Wednesday. Nope, he will always spike a terrible fever at 3 a.m. Christmas morning, or 25 minutes before you're supposed to get on an international flight.
It's never convenient. And it's never fun. Sick babies cry. And crying babies are one of life's most distressing things, because you can't explain, can't reason, can't argue with that crying. If they don't feel good, they're going to cry. And then you won't feel good.
So, knowing that the average child gets 6-10 colds a year, the right time to get ready for your sick-baby-to-be is before she's sick. Have your medicine cabinet stocked and ready. Here are some things experienced parents recommend for your registry. 1. Stuffy-nose relief: Crucial, because babies can't blow their noses (they won't be able to until about age 4), and a baby with a stuffy nose can't breastfeed or drink from a bottle normally. Your first line of defense here is what's called a nasal aspirator, something to physically remove the mucous from your baby's nose. You can buy old-school ones with a horn and a bulb, but many parents prefer an updated aspirator system like the one you see in this BabyCenter video:
If your baby's mucous is thick and resists moving, you may need to use saline drops, which you can buy over the counter or make yourself. Putting them in is fun for no one -- here's how to do it -- but remember: great...
