6 ways to keep your mind off labor, besides being productive
by Whitney Barthel posted in Pregnancy
I was a nesting failure this go-round. Before Rosie was born last month, I had a million things I should have been doing but wanted nothing more than to waste the days away.
I love that pregnancy meme that says something like, ?The average month is 30 days long, except the last month of pregnancy...which is 287.? So true.
Most women -- including myself during previous pregnancies -- go through an energy spurt when their pregnancies are coming to an end. Generally, this increase in energy is used to prepare "the nest" for a new baby.
Moms-to-be work overtime cooking freezer meals, cleaning, paying bills ahead of time, and doing other miscellany so that there is little to do after the baby arrives. And perhaps a little to keep mom's mind off the excitement and fear they might be feeling about their impending birth. Unfortunately for my husband, my last month of pregnancy was rough and I was far, far from the domestic goddess that I like to try and be some days.
Those last weeks I had a strong urge to do something with my spurts of energy, but I wanted nothing to do with anything that might pertained to the responsibilities of being a mom and wife. Maybe I knew these responsibilities would be even greater after the baby arrived and I needed a mental and physical break.
Whatever the reason, here is how I spent my nesting energy...and how you can spend yours too, if you feel like being a fellow nesting failure.
