680,000 Oball rattles recalled due to choking hazard

A popular rattle has been recalled, following reports of the product breaking and young children gagging on small pieces.
This voluntary recall of Kid II Oball Rattles affects 680,000 sold in the U.S. and an additional 17,000 sold in Canada. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC,) clear plastic discs on the outside of the ball can break and release small beads, posing a choking risk to young children. So far, there have been 42 reports of this plastic disc breaking and spilling out beads -- including two reports of beads found in children's mouths and three reports of children gagging.

Product description
Affected Oball Rattles come in four colors: pink, blue, green and orange. The model number 81031 is printed on the inner surface of one of the plastic discs and on the packaging. Each ball has 28 finger holes and measure four inches in diameter. Embedded in the rattles are a clear plastic disc with all-orange beads and two clear plastic discs with beads of varying colors on the perimeter. Only rattles with date codes T0486, T1456, T2316, T2856 and T3065 located on a small triangle on the inner surface of the rattle are included in the recall. (The first three numbers represent the day of the year and the last digit represents the year of production.)
