There's really no way to prepare yourself for the wonderful, challenging and sometimes downright disgusting realities of motherhood, but these funny parenting cartoons provide an excellent crash course in what life with a baby is really like.
In those first months of parenthood you'll find yourself doing things you never would have imagined. Things like sticking your nose right up against a dirty diaper and inhaling deeply, or sitting in a room full of people with your bare breasts out, or wiping up a splash of spit-up with the hem of your T-shirt and continuing to wear it for the rest of the day. And possibly the next day, too.
This is stuff you would never have dreamed of doing before you had kids. After, though, they somehow become second nature. Like most moms, illustrator Ingebritt ter Veld and blogger Corinne de Vries, who works for birth announcement web site Hippe-Geboortekaartjes, quickly gained first-hand experience in all of the above when they had their first babies. They decided to put a funny spin on these unexpected parts of parenting, sharing their cartoons online using the hashtag #thingsonlymomsknow.
