8 big mom truths in HBO's Big Little Lies

In case you haven't heard, the world is waiting with bated breath for the finale of HBO?s Big Little Lies on Sunday, April 2. The mini-series, based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, has an all-star cast with Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoe Kravitz. It?s also set in the gorgeous and affluent community of Monterey, California, and focuses primarily on the mothers of kids in a first-grade class.
The show is drama-filled, to say the least, with murder, infidelity, rape, and domestic violence but it doesn't feel like an episode of Grey's Anatomy. These women are strong and capable. Their families are important to them. Hopefully most of us can say our lives don't entail the same sort of events, but still, there are so many truths about motherhood that Big Little Lies nails without a doubt.
The morning ride to school is sacred. There?s this moment in the intro where you see each mom in her car driving her kids to school. This part of the intro always hits me in the gut. This thing they are doing, zoning out a tiny bit after a mad rush of breakfast, backpacks, clothes, and school supplies, is the very same thing I do. I know what that moment of quiet relief feels like as the day is set in motion.
