8 ways parenthood is exactly like shopping at IKEA

On the surface there doesn't appear to be many parallels between IKEA and parenthood. The two seem as different as Poäng chairs and peri bottles.
I never made a connection between the two until a recent shopping trip. And then it hit me. Stepping inside an IKEA store is actually a lot like parenting. And not just because both Poäng chairs and peri bottles can provide comfort after postpartum tearing.
Consider the facts:
The universe laughs at your plans. Each time I go into an IKEA store I think I?m the one in charge. The store may try to force me to follow a certain path before I can get to the checkout. To walk through each and every section. But I?m convinced I can beat the system. I look for shortcuts, a quick route to get ahead. It?s all for naught because I?m not smarter than the store. The same goes with parenthood, I?m not smarter that my child. It?s his world right now, we just live in it. Don?t believe me" Who is getting their butt wiped in your house" You think you have a budget. But you don?t. When I was pregnant, my husband and I mapped out what we thought we needed. ?Swings are overrated,? we said. ?A bassinet is overkill,? we predicted. Then my son exited my body and we got a reality check. We ended up buying more than we originally planned. The same thing happens at IKEA. You may be at the store specifically to buy a Karlstad sofa, but how can you leave without that Rens sheepskin to throw over the back&...
