I bought and was gifted all the baby things, many of which rotted at the bottom of my closet in a pile of unopened, unloved boxes after I had my first child. There were few items I considered to be newborn essentials, but those few items were a lifeline. My shortlist of newborn essentials meant the difference between an easy day and a hard day as a mom to a newborn.
Were you a clueless first time mom" I sure was. I had my son in newborn diapers at 3 weeks old and couldn't for the life of my figure out why he kept having poopsplosions. I only put him in button or zip up clothing for weeks because I was afraid I would damage his head when dressing him. I owned six pairs of shoes for a newborn who wouldn't keep them on for more than a minute at a time. At five months old I couldn't figure out why my son was screaming through every car ride until finally a friend suggested I hang toys from his car seat handle. Whoops. I've grown so much since then. I consider myself to be a great mom to my three little ones, and I also feel I am a great resource for what products you do and don't need at each stage of your child's life.
I used few newborn products with each child, but those items were essential to both my baby's and my own happiness. They made my life easier and they allowed me to feel relaxed about life with a newborn.
