9 refreshingly unique family activities for your gang to try

We're your typical baseball in the summertime, soccer in the fall sports family. Sometimes I love it, but other times I wish we mixed things up a bit more. I mean, athletics are great and all, but there's so much more out there to do with kids!
Parents have been talking about their less usual ways of having fun with their families on Reddit, and the gamut runs all the way from larping (that's "live action role-playing") to sleuthing through graveyards.
B33*ucker: My husband takes our boys larping. They're too young for the actual game but definitely enjoy hitting each other with foam swords.
heymymilk:Â We go hiking on rainy days in trails that have huge 3 ft deep puddles and have mud fights. Full blown, covered head to toe mud fights, then we walk home after and ignore the stares. They don't know what they're missing! maumacd: We take our kids kayaking.
Apparently it's crazy to teach children how to trust lifejackets" The 4yo has fallen in like a dozen times (reaches out too far) and we just pull her up and keep going. The baby hasn't fallen in yet, but we did tests with the life jacket in a pool, and he thinks it's halarious to get dunked and then teeter into upright position.
It's not like we're going white water rafting y'all!
Splitz30017: I'm like obsessed with aircraft(all types). So at least once a month I drag the kids to the local airport where there is a nice observation point and watch planes land/take off.
