Raise your hand if you think jokes about "he's technically only 2" on your child's third birthday will get old really fast. Welcome to the world of leap year babies. Some consider it a seriously cool birth date but many expecting moms aren't so sure.
When given the choice to induce or schedule a c-section on Monday or any other day, moms are choosing any other day. Obviously when you go into labor naturally or require an emergency intervention, there's no option, but even then, moms still don't seem to prefer February 29 as their new little one's birth date.

Let me preface this whole thing by sharing I have a holiday baby. When contractions started on Halloween morning (three days overdue), I felt pretty sure she'd have a November 1st birthday given how long my previous labor was. Fast forward five hours and she was born at noon. Leading up to her first birthday, I thought it was the best thing in the world to have a holiday birthday. Every Halloween since then, I deal with some sadness. The only thing that lifts my sagging spirit is her absolute joy in it. It never seems to bother her that we have to rush through cake on her birthday so we can go trick-or-treating. For her, I think it's all about the build-up.
