A second baby has been born in the U.S. via uterus transplant

The first successful birth in the U.S. to come as a result of a uterus transplant served as a glimmer of hope for women born without a uterus or with a nonfunctioning uterus. Now, a second woman involved in a uterus transplant clinical trial in Texas has given birth to a healthy baby, Time reported. The baby girl was welcomed to the world in February via a scheduled c-section, following an uncomplicated pregnancy and labor.
The women participating in this Baylor University Medical Center trial all have absolute uterine factor infertility (AUI) -- meaning they either have no uterus or they have one that is nonfunctioning. As with the first woman who gave birth as part of the trial, this second woman was also born without a uterus. The only other place this has happened before is Sweden, where eight babies have been born in this manner since 2014, according to Time. Baylor?s transplant program is actually among several that have launched in the U.S. in recent years. But it's the first to use both living and deceased donors.
For the record, a uterus transplant definitely doesn't come cheap ? the cost is estimated to be upwards of $500,000. The process isn't particularly easy on the body or quick, either. But I'm sure these recent births offer hope to so many women across the nation.
?The first birth proved that birth after uterus transplantation for the first time in the world could be replicated outside of the center in Sweden,?...
