A simple lunchbox addition that can make all the difference
by Laura Falin posted in Life & Home
I'm fascinated watching my kids and how they operate in this world. Despite being born in the same family, and having the same (really weird) parents -- they're all crazy-different.
I'm working on discovering what makes each of them tick. The book "The 5 Love Languages," was a huge help for me -- and whether you agree with his theories on love languages or not, I think we can all agree that different kids have different ways they need to be shown love and encouraged.
So while one of my kids would crawl under the table and not come out until graduation if I put a note in his lunch, another one really needs them. Her whole day can be turned upside down by one good encouraging word. When her math teacher began encouraging her, she actually got better at math. It's that strong of a reaction. So leaving notes in her lunch really can turn around her entire day.
A while ago I was telling my husband how much of a difference lunch notes made, and he got sort of sheepish-looking and said, "Well...I kinda like it when you leave one on my coffee mug in the morning, too."
So there you go. Lunch notes. Not just for kids.
What does your family do to make each other feel special"
