An ode to wine from every pregnant woman
by Melissa Willets posted in Pregnancy
During my first trimester, the very thought of having a sip of wine made me want to barf my pregnancy brains out. But now that I?m safely past the worst of my morning sickness, I?ll admit I?m starting to miss my favorite way to wind down after a long day of momming. And so, here is my ode to wine. I?m pretty sure pregnant women everywhere know where I?m coming from when I say:
Dearest wine,
Oh, how I miss you.
The beauty of your unopened bottle, beckoning me from the counter after the kids are in bed (but probably still calling me).
The satisfaction of uncorking you for the first time, as I ignore my children?s calls for a glass of water or another story.
Picking a favorite glass in which to pour you, to the top, of course. Your color, flavor, smell, all preludes to your singular taste.
The delirious anticipation one feels for that initial, delicious, calming sip. Mmmm.
How I?ll feel the frustrations of a day, spent attempting to gain the upper hand over three kids, melt away.
My kids arguing feels instantly less grating.
My preschooler?s tantrums seem quieter and less threatening to my very sanity.
The comforting weight of my glass in hand.
Knowing where there?s one glass of you, there is, mercifully, usually another.
Yes, wine, you are delectable in the summer, crisp, white, and refreshing.
You are delightful in the fall, darker, heavier, coating my throat and soul with your soothing scrumptiousness.
You?re warming in winter. I?ll...
