Baby name hijacking: Don't let it deter you
by Makita Gulley posted in Mom Stories
Lately I have been noticing people complain and get really upset about family, friends, and acquaintances essentially "stealing" their baby name idea. Then they have to scramble to change the name they have decided on.
While that would grind my gears, I would not change my child's name based on the fact someone else I know decided the use the same name. A considerable amount of time was spent agonizing over what to name my children. Google searches, multiple in-depth conversations, and writing out full names to see what would flow together is not getting thrown out the window.
Names end up becoming popular, so even if at first it was unique and different, that doesn't mean it will stay that way. No matter how ticked off it may make you. I see suggestions of keeping your name choice to yourself even if you are bursting at your seams to tell if you don't want it hijacked. The other side of that coin is this: if someone does choose the same name reveals it first, then you end up looking like the hijacker. Even if you decided on it months before them. Which would probably be more agitating to me.
Bottom line, do not add stress to yourself over what other people decide to name their kids. You are definitely allowed to be annoyed, but just chalk it to you obviously make great choices if others would like to follow in your footsteps.
How would you feel if your baby name was hijacked" Would you change your name choic...
