Badass OB delivers another woman's baby before giving birth herself

Even though she was a patient herself, a dedicated doctor went beyond the call of duty to help a laboring mother -- proving she's some kind of superhuman badass mama.
Kentucky obstetrician Amanda Hess stepped in to help deliver a baby down the hall while she was admitted to Frankfort Regional Hospital. And, get this, she was ready to give birth, too. Hess was having waiting to get induced last Sunday when she heard screaming coming from another room.
?I just put on another gown to cover up my backside and put on some boots over my shoes, to keep from getting any fluid and all that stuff on me, and went down to her room and I knew her," Hess told WKYT News.
As it turns out, the other mama-to-be was one of Hess' patients, whom she had seen at a checkup just days before. She was fully dilated and ready to push -- except the OB on call was still on his way back to the hospital after taking a break. Hess assisted in the delivery and then later gave birth to her own baby, a daughter named Ellen Joyce. "You know, I love doing what I do," the humble doctor said. "I love taking care of mothers and babies and you really a lot of doctors are always thinking of their patients even when they're a patient themselves."
I am in awe of this mom. Seriously. I thought I was some kind of superstar when I showed up to work with mild contractions the day before delivering my second child. Or, when I vacuumed, cleaned the house...
