Beyond-emotional photos: Mom welcomes family's first boy in 50 years
by Melissa Willets posted in Pregnancy
As a labor and delivery nurse, you wouldn't think that second-time mom Dara Crouch would have any surprises on the day she gave birth. But lo and behold, she and her husband Eric were in for the biggest shock of their lives the afternoon they welcomed the first boy on her side of the family in half a century!
The emotional birth was caught on camera by Georgia-based photographer Neely Ker-Fox. "I immediately knew it was an amazing shot the moment I took it," photographer Neely told BabyCenter in an email about capturing Dara's open-mouthed reaction to finding out she'd just delivered a son.
Dara and Eric had not found out their second baby's gender ahead of time.
"I love shooting births when the gender is unknown," Neely tells us, adding, "Every mother is filled with anticipation to meet their baby no matter what, but the parents that don't know and wait until the of the moment of birth, there's really nothing else like it."
Neely explained that Dara "very much thought she was having a girl, as they had not had a boy on her side of the family in over 50 years."
Meanwhile, Eric had a hunch it could be a boy.
