by Maggie Downs posted in Life
Calling all dreamers and lovers of nonsense! September 13 marks the 101st birthday of beloved author Roald Dahl, who left the earth a more magical place for children (and children-at-heart) everywhere. More than 200 million copies of his books are in print around the world, inspiring film adaptations, as well as countless dreams, and adding words to the English language.
Here are some fun ways to celebrate Roald Dahl Day.
? Add to your Roald Dahl collection!
I first encountered the wonderful world of Dahl when I was in third grade, and my teacher read The Witches aloud to the class. It was a creepy, enchanting world that enveloped me immediately, and I could hardly stand the wait for story time each day. I longed for that hour the way some kids count down to Christmas. From there I tore through the rest of his books independently, from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to The BFG and The Twits. If you loved Dahl's books as a child, think about adding some of his books to your home library.
? Watch a Roald Dahl film!
Most everyone is familiar with Willy Wonka of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, whether it's the Gene Wilder version or the Johnny Depp reboot, but when is the last time you saw James & the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr. Fox, or The BFG"
? Are you a Matilda or Mr. Fox" Take this quiz to see which of Roald Dahl?s characters best describes you.
