Breast milk bake sale brownies" I'm calling BS
by Michelle Stein posted in Parenting
Look, I'm down with breastfeeding. I've nursed three kids for at least 15 months each. I've made breast milk ice pops for my baby. And I'm totally accepting of the idea of adults drinking breast milk, or making ice cream/other interesting foods with human milk. Breast milk is awesome.
But what one mom allegedly did with her milk is so not awesome.
An anonymous post on the Sanctimommy Facebook page featured a mom who had run out of milk for a brownie recipe, so she decided to substitute breast milk. Which is fine. EXCEPT, the brownies were for a bake sale at her child's school. And she didn't tell anyone.
"I need some advice. I made brownies for my school bake sale that had breast milk in them," the post reads. "I didn't have time to run to the store and didn't think it was a big deal (some of those kids could use the nutrition, let's be honest). And it wasn't even that much. One of the other moms found out and (is) blowing it way out of proportion. Idk what to do! Any suggestions" :("
I mean, is this for real" Seriously. 1) Traditional brownie recipes don't call for milk. 2) I think most nursing moms realize slipping breast milk into unsuspecting strangers' food is a big no-no. 3) How would anyone even know about the swap, unless she was the one who let it slip" I'm calling BS.
Still, the post has managed to attract thousands of entertaining responses -- ranging from outrage to real zingers.
