Can poppyseed oil help with infertility"

Struggling to get pregnant" Getting your fallopian tubes flushed with a poppyseed oil-based solution could be just the trick, according to a new study.
It may sound like a gimmick, but the research appears in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine and even received a nod of approval from a top official at the National Institutes of Health.
The study involved almost 1,120 infertile women at hospitals in the Netherlands. Researchers divided the women into two groups. Both groups received an imaging study that?s a standard procedure for infertility evaluations, including in the United States. It?s called a hysterosalpingogram, and involves taking X-rays of a woman?s uterus and fallopian tubes. There was one difference between the groups. For one set of women, doctors injected a water-based fluid into the uterus to help see the X-rays better. For the other group, they used a solution made with poppyseed-oil instead.
The results were startling. Almost 40 percent of women who received the poppy-seed oil solution became pregnant within 6 months. Among women who received the water-based solution, just 30 percent became pregnant.
Researchers aren?t sure why the poppy-seed oil solution appears to help with infertility, although it?s a trend doctors have noticed in the past. One theory is the oil flushes mucus out of the fallopian tubes. Another is that it might make the uterus more amenable to pregnancy.
Of course, there...
