Columbia hopes breastfeeding mannequins will encourage public breastfeeding

Why pose a mannequin like she?s breastfeeding" If you live in a country like Columbia with a shockingly low breastfeeding rate (even lower than America) seeing a mannequin breastfeed may confront stereotypes and promote the normalization of breastfeeding.
For the entire month of April a shopping mall in Bogotá, the capital of Columbia, staged mannequins as if they were breastfeeding tiny mannequin babies.
The campaign was hosted by Amigos de la Lactancia (Friends of Breastfeeding) in an attempt to normalize breastfeeding. On their website, Friends of Breastfeeding states the mission of their movement to support ?moms who are attacked for feeding their babies in public. This initiative invites all Colombians to declare themselves as their friends and postulate to shopping centers to make them 100% breast-feeding friendly territories*.?
UNICEF reports that only about 49 percent of babies are breastfed in Columbia while the CDC reports that about 80 percent of American babies are breastfed at some point.
Columbia is following suit after other countries like Brazil have become aggressively pro-breastfeeding over the last few years. Setting an example for other countries, Brazil has managed to sky-rocket their breastfeeding rates while minimizing their infant mortality by 73 percent from 1990 to 2015, according to UNICEF.
