Two things new parents don't have to choose between are delayed cord clamping (waiting at least 30 seconds before clamping and cutting the umbilical cord) and cord blood banking. That's because you can actually do both -- so long as the cord clamping delay is brief.
This is exactly what one BabyCenter Community member ended up doing for her second child. Gouri Jnair and her husband, Rakesh, of Dublin, California, had banked their first child's cord blood. But because they were new to the U.S. at the time and unfamiliar with the benefits, delayed cord clamping didn't happen with their firstborn. It wasn't until Gouri was pregnant with their second child, Rohan, that she learned about delayed clamping.
