Cupid bites: An itty-bitty Valentines treat

If you're looking for a Valentines treat that's just a bite, these are the perfect little gems. They're actually little sugar cookie bites sprinkled (inside and out) with pink and red nonpareils, but my middle kiddo started calling them 'Cupid Bites' and it stuck.
These are addictive little guys, but they package up so beautifully in a Valentines mug or tin that they're totally worth it. We left them on our neighbors porch and ding-dong ditched her, laughing hysterically all the way home. Five minutes later I got a picture of an empty mug.

Cupid Bites
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon almond or vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon milk (if needed)
1 1/2 tablespoons Valentines colored sprinkles, plus extra for sprinkling on top
Coarse sugar
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Line an 8-inch pan with parchment paper. (You can use a 9-inch too, but just be aware the dough will not go all the way to the sides when pressing it. That's fine, since you're not actually baking in this pan.)
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, sugar and extract at medium speed until creamy, about 1-2 minutes. Add the flour and salt. Mix on low speed until a dough forms. It will be crumbly at first, but keep beating. (If it ...
