At any given moment, new mothers and fathers have a million different things to worry about. Is my newborn eating enough" Sleeping enough" Should his poop look like that" Is it normal for her to spit up so often" WHY is she still crying"
With so many concerns spinning around in exhausted parents' minds, decoding baby product labels shouldn't have to be one of them. "Natural." "Organic." (What's the difference, anyway") "Preservatives." (Wait, are these bad") It can all be so confusing when staring bleary-eyed in a store aisle with a fussy baby.
Recently, I had the opportunity to do a little Q&A with Toneisha Friday, Consumer R&D Communications Manager with Johnson & Johnson, to get the lowdown on a few commonly used label terms.
Can you define "natural" and "organic"" What are the main differences between these two terms"
"Some use these terms interchangeably, but these are different," Friday explained. "'Natural' means where the ingredient comes from. 'Organic' means how the ingredient is farmed. You should be aware that natural products may use natural, natural origin, and synthetic ingredients, same as top tier conventional brands. Organic brands often use a handful of certified ingredients in their baby products. But they also may use natural, natural origin, and synthetic ingredients."
