Despite the endless scary news, I refuse to be afraid of summer

Is it just me, or does summer seem like a scary time to be a parent"
Although I?ve become somewhat desensitized to my newsfeeds constantly being flooded with troubling news, as soon as it involves a child I can't seem to ignore it.
Nothing is more important than the safety of my kids, so you can imagine the amount of fear I felt being inundated with warnings about something as harmless, (or so I thought), as a bouncy castle.
On one screen I?m watching a segment of The Doctors about a child who got a staph infection from being in contact with a bouncy castle surface.
My son's past birthday, when we rented a bouncy castle. No one caught an infection from it.
On my desktop, there?s news of an infant who had a fatal tick bite, and one rightfully angry mother taking to facebook posting her daughter's severely sunburned skin after using aerosol sunscreen. I don?t dare to look at other ?related news? because I know that?s one rabbit hole I don?t want to go down. But still, I worry.
Worrying needlessly can be dangerous, too. A whole string of ?what-if? scenarios will cross my mind and before I know it I'll be too crippled by fear to even let my kids out of my house. Here?s what I do to cope with anxieties that come with parenting, news consumption, and the safety of my kids:
