Even tall kids won't outgrow these clever new car seats

In Sweden, children routinely rear-face until age 4, even age 6. That's crazy, right" No. Since motor vehicle fatalities are most commonly caused by front-impact crashes that violently fling passengers' bodies forward, a rear-facing seat that keeps fragile young bodies from whipping back and forth from crash forces is generally much safer.
But though car seat manufacturers have started making convertible seats that rear-face to 35, 40, even 50 pounds, which can easily accommodate the weight of an average 4-year-old, the rear-facing height limits typically aren't as generous. They often top out at 36 to 40 inches, which means many children out-tall the seats at 3, even 2 years old.
There are very tall seats on the market, of course (see the slideshow below for our recommendations). But they often have premium prices to go along with their extra space. Which is why I was so excited to read about these two new seats, both under $200 and rear-facing to 50 pounds (forward-facing to 65 pounds) and 49 inches.
