Fun at the farmers market (even in the winter!)

I'm a California girl, born and bred. My parents moved there just before I was born, thankful to escape brutal Boston winters, and happy to be in a beautiful, sunny place that stayed 75° most of the year.
So when my husband and I moved our family to Colorado ten years ago, we were in for some serious culture shock.
We were ready for most of it. We knew it would be cold and snowy (we still love it!). We adjusted to driving in snow, and to a higher altitude, and to thunderstorms and occasional tornado warnings. But I realized after I moved here that I had taken fresh fruits and veggies for granted. My garden in California grew year-round. I could get local, delicious peaches and berries and melons at the store whenever I wanted. The Santa Monica Farmer's Market was huge, and plentiful, and open every week of the year.
