Gorgeous photo captures priceless moment for new mama

Technology is like Katy Perry music. As much as everyone loves to snark on it, it?s actually pretty great.
Case in point: Orange County photographer Katie Trottino, who runs Katie T. Photography, recently captured this priceless moment of a brand-new mama using FaceTime to reach out to her father in another state.
Reach out and touch someone indeed.
While I?m keenly aware of all the articles that bemoan technology and proclaim that screens are detrimental to developing minds, there?s no denying that devices are here to stay, and they can be helpful and interesting tools. But beyond that, I love technology for how it defies the distances in our society. It allows us to share moments, to be together in a world that so often rends us apart. Recently I spent almost a week away from my family while I went on a work retreat. It was the first time I?ve been separated from my 2-year-old son for any real length of time, and I ached for him.
I thought I would welcome the time away and relish the space to focus on my work without all the mundane chores that come with running a household. And I did. But I also missed my son?s spontaneous hugs, his infectious giggles, and the way he cracks himself up when he asks me to smell his feet.
Cue FaceTime!
Each morning my husband, who was at home with our son, set up his iPad on the kitchen table. Miles away on my iPhone, I was able to enjoy oatmeal with my child.
Maybe I couldn?t smell his feet,...
