Gripping photos: Super-fast VBAC shows courage triumphing over fear

When Danielle Berry?s son, Tucker, was born via a "devastating" c-section after 12 grueling hours of labor, she was determined to do things differently the second time around.
"It was really difficult emotionally and physically recovering from the c-section," Berry told BabyCenter via email. "I had a difficult time breastfeeding and bonding with my son in the early days while healing and dealing with the overall trauma from the birth, as well as some postpartum depression."
When she became pregnant with her daughter Quinn, Berry did everything possible to achieve the VBAC she dreamed of. A VBAC is a vaginal birth after a c-section, something her new group of midwives supported. ?At my 37 week appointment, I mentioned in passing having super itchy feet...which turns out is a symptom of cholestasis. They took this random info I shared seriously, and tested my blood, called the high-risk doctor, and we decided to induce right then and there.?
Since she wanted to avoid using pitocin, her caregivers broke her water. Just two hours later, Berry achieved her VBAC. She says she felt so empowered by the birth, even though, as she tells us, "Quinn ended up staying in the NICU for 21 days with bacterial meningitis."
Berry adds, "But I still never got to a low place despite all the stress because of my healing birth with her."
