Here's one side effect you don't expect when starting solids

I loved watching my babies hit new milestones. Babbling, then talking. Scooting, then crawling, then walking. Breastfeeding, then moving on to dribbly cereal, and baby food, and finally actual "grown-up" food.
But one thing I don't miss about the exciting transition from nursing to solids are the diaper rashes. My poor kids! They've always had sensitive tummies, and any time we tried something new, they'd get a diaper rash.
One time, my daughter developed a diaper rash on a road trip. Each time I changed her diaper and put her back in her car seat afterward, she cried. I cried. I'm not entirely sure, but I think my husband may have cried. It was awful.
After that fateful trip, which will remain etched in my memory forever, I learned to take some precautions before easing my kids into a new food phase. Here's what helped when introducing my babies to new foods:
I introduced one new food at a time, then waited a few days before starting on another to make sure my babies were okay with it.
I went easy on the more acidic foods like berries and citrus, because those definitely aggravated diaper rashes more than milder foods.
I began using a diaper rash cream like Aquaphor's Baby 3-in-1 Diaper Rash Cream before I started them on new foods. It worked to protect their sensitive skin before a diaper rash could develop, which was a huge help.
Although you can definitely use rash cream to treat diaper rashes, I found it was even better...
