Here's proof that being an older mom rocks

Good news if you?ve had or are having children in your mid-30s or later: New research suggests kids born to older moms may be smarter and more emotionally stable than kids born to younger moms.
If you?re a new mom age 35 or older, you?ve probably heard about the risks associated with older motherhood such as declining fertility and higher chances of birth defects and pregnancy complications.
But several recent studies indicate having babies later in life may give your children intellectual and social-emotional advantages, and may even help you live longer. That?s news worth celebrating at a time when more and more women in the United States are postponing pregnancy until well into their 30s.
Here?s a snapshot of the latest findings:
? Research published in the International Journal of Epidemiology examined 3 studies from 1958, 1970, and 2000 to 2002 involving around 30,000 British children. In the most recent study, kids born to 35 to 39-year-old moms scored significantly better on cognitive tests than kids born to younger moms. That was a reversal from previous studies, where the kids of younger moms performed better. Lead author Alice Goisis told the New York Times that today?s older moms tend to be more educated and socioeconomically better off than their younger peers, which could be an advantage for their children.
