Here's why my kids are only getting gifts cards this Christmas

See that featured photo above" That is what a typical Christmas in our house looks like. As in excess, excess, excess. As in, mountains of gifts my kids open, play with for a few hours, then throw in a pile.
Of course, we are beyond lucky to be able to give them Christmases of excess. But this year, I just don't want to do the holiday this way.
Maybe it's because we lost a baby this year, and I view everything through a different lens. Either way, this year, Christmas is about us together as a family, really being present and feeling grateful for what we have. Not tearing open gift after gift and then going on with our lives.
So this year, we are giving our kids an experience instead of gifts. We are taking them to Disney World. But they still need something to open on Christmas morning; I get that. Thus, the lazy gift my husband and I decided upon: gift cards.
Seriously, gift cards. That's it.
There are so many reasons why giving our children gifts cards makes sense:
They're travel-friendly. And I'm not scrappy enough to figure out how to sneakily pack a bunch of gifts among my packed clothing to take on the plane.
I don't feel like going Christmas shopping. I'm just not up for it this season. The stores are already crowded and picked over. And in the past I've spent forever standing around in the aisles, figuring out who should get what, and deciding whether the kids are all getting an equal number of gifts, and on and on....
