I felt shamed for having a toddler on my hip and a baby bump

As I bent down to tidy up the floor in front of our Airbnb apartment I overheard my name. Naturally, I paused, unable to resist listening to what followed. It wasn?t flattering. Our guests, in short order, mocked my home, their guest-room, and the fact that I?m a pregnant mother with two small children.
To catch you up, my husband and I have been renting a room out of our home on Airbnb for about a year. We have a great set-up that allows us to rent out space while our home stays private for the sake of our small children. We have had many amazing guests stay with us over the last 12 months, and it's worked like a dream for our family.
This was the first time I?d overheard guests as I make every effort to maintain privacy, for us and for them. I could excuse the mocking of our house. We are a remodel waiting to happen and there are parts of the exterior of our home and landscape that definitely need work. I could excuse our guests exclaiming about the room because fifty 5-star-reviews outweighed negative comments by far, but when they mocked me, it struck a chord. I stepped down the hall away from their room after putting the sound barrier against the bottom of their door (as I had intended to do before). I was embarrassed, angry, defensive, and completely at a loss as to what to do. If they didn?t like their room or my home they could certainly have left. They didn't admit to any problems when I asked if the room met their expect...
