I never imagined my children would be so different

Everyone always says that no two children are alike. I used to be a teacher, and have seen siblings with such incredible personality differences that it was hard to believe they came from the same family. Yet I never considered that I would give birth to children who would be that different.
When my son was born last spring, though, I had to scrap everything I thought I knew about parenting and start from the beginning.
Talk about being humbled. It started way back during my most recent maternity leave. I had my leave scheduled based on the way things had flowed with my daughter. My son quickly showed me that he was the boss and my plans meant nothing to him. As he gets older, the differences become even more clear.
My daughter started walking at 9 months old. At nearly a year, my son occasionally takes a few steps but is otherwise uninterested.
My son loves to put any and everything he can pick up into his mouth. I never worried about my daughter eating anything but food.
As a baby, my daughter was pretty relaxed. She rarely got frustrated. My little guy wants to be a big boy so bad. When he can't do something, he flails about and lets us know he's not happy.
Whenever I talk to folks about it, they often tell me it's because one is a girl and the other is a boy. I'm not sure I believe that. I've known girls who were really active like my son, and boys who were chill like my daughter. Anyway, it doesn't matter why they're different. Wh...
