I survived moving my twins from cribs to beds... kind of

As I stood in our twins' room, on the eve of their last night in their cribs, I fought back tears. Although they clearly were ready for the big move, I was struggling with the rush of memories. I held onto a crib and let go. Let go of the cribs, and our babies. It was time.
Let me rewind a bit to a couple weeks before the big move.
First, I should mention that these are our third and fourth kids, so this wasn't our first big move. We have always waited until our kids were about to turn 3 to make the switch. To some this is a bit late, but we witnessed a family member trying to move their toddler around age 2 and it was a nightmare.
Our twins turn 3 in July, so we were hoping we had more time. We were going to do it in April. But then time started speed up after August, and one of our twins, Everly jumped out of her crib. We held our breaths and it didn't happen again. Well, that is until a couple weeks ago when out strolls Everly from her bedroom during nap time. It was obvious that she had been out for while, because her sister's crib was full of items that we did not put in there.
Then there were the nightmares. One night Mia woke up crying, insisting that her crib was broken. It wasn't. She had a bad dream, and despite our best efforts convincing her otherwise, Mia spent that night in our bed, and had restless sleeps in her crib since.
