I think I know why every postpartum woman has "mom bangs"

If you?ve had a baby, there's a good chance you have ?mom bangs.? You may not even know it, I didn?t notice mine until recently. But they are practically universal among new moms and a trending hairstyle among the postpartum set.
I?m talking about the tiny wisps of hair that are growing back from your postpartum hair loss. They frame your face, they are short and you can?t do much with them. For some women they are even wiry and gray. If you are reading this and nodding in recognition it?s official: you have mom bangs.
Like the majority of new moms I was shocked and heartbroken over my postpartum hair loss. I was never one to have great -- or even good -- hair, so when pregnancy turned my limp locks into a thick and healthy mane I was beside myself with excitement. I may have even stood in front of the mirror two (or 12) times shaking my head and watching my hair tousle.
And then my son was born and my hormones caused a very acrimonious breakup between my hair and scalp. They parted ways en masse, usually resulting in a clogged shower drain. I even went so far as to avoid brushing my hair in hopes that I?d lose less of it, but I just ended up with incredibly tangled hair...that continued to fall out.
Eventually it stopped and I returned to the world of average hair. I bid adieu to my dreams of becoming a hair model and said hello to the ponytail, a protective measure to keep my son from pulling out what was left of my hair.
