I thought I knew where our first-aid kit was, until I needed it

I should have known better. Don't make the same safety mistake I did.
It all started with avocado toast. I thought it sounded so yummy on that Saturday morning. Plus I was going to get to try out my new kitchen knives.
My husband was in the bathroom getting dressed. My 4-year-old was still sound asleep while my 15-month-old sat in her high chair babbling her sweet morning chatter.
I cut open the avocado and went downward with the knife to extract the seed. The knife was so sharp I accidentally stabbed right through to the joint of my middle finger. (As it turns out, this particular household injury is more common than anyone imagined. Read this if you want to avoid making the same mistake.)
I was stunned by the pain and reached for a paper towel to stop the bleeding. As I ran to the bathroom to get my husband I realized I was going to pass out.
"Where's the first-aid kit"" He asked as I laid on the couch taking deep breaths and keeping the pressure on the cut.
"It's in the cabinet."
But no, it wasn't in the cabinet.
You see, I always assumed if something happened to my kids or my husband I could find the gauze and first-aid items they needed. But I never thought something could happen to me.Â
I have emergency numbers posted for who to call in case something happens to my children, but what if something happens to me or my husband" Could my son dial 911 for us"Â Could he get help if I was unrespons...
