I took my toddler camping, and it wasn't an epic disaster

Ever since I gave birth to this kid, I?ve been trying to get my travel mojo back. The rational part of my brain knows that it?s possible to go on excursions and have adventures with a child in tow.
But the other part of my brain is reluctant and easily intimidated. I know my son is particular and has a strict bedtime routine. He likes certain things just so -- and I know from experience that travel, no matter how well you plan, is never just so. Some days we can?t even get to Target, let alone some exotic locale.
That said, I had an itch to go camping with my toddler, and I decided to scratch it.
No, we didn?t do the tent thing. We had enough to worry about with packing the car, getting out of town, sleeping in an unfamiliar location, and hopefully starting a fire. I didn?t want to construct my own shelter too. Come on. We?re not Swiss Family Robinson. We opted for glamping instead -- basically camping for softies.
I booked a tipi in the desert through Hipcamp (which is like Airbnb but for campsites and nontraditional lodging), ran through my mental checklist of everything we could possibly want (lantern! teddy bear! extra teddy bear!), and packed all the necessary provisions.
The car was chock-full. Like, imagine a Honda Accord stuffed with the entirety of Babies'R'Us and REI, and that was our scene. There was no way we forgot anything.
