"We?ll take the baby's first month for ourselves," the Twilight actress recently explained in an interview for the latest issue of Fit Pregnancy and Baby. "After the baby arrives, we?re doing one month of silence. Just the three of us, no visitors, and we?re turning off our phones too, so there?s no expectation for us to communicate."
The 29-year-old, who gave birth to daughter Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder on July 25,  added: "You don?t get those first 30 days back, and we want to be fully present."
But although being "unplugged" is generally lauded, not all are loving this couple's decision. A reader named Melanie shared her take by writing:
"I am glad I am not in their family. As a mother of five, I think it is very important to share the baby's first days with the family. They raised you. The labor is one thing... I understand wanting to do that alone, but to keep the baby from its grandparents and other relatives for a full month.
What a cruel first lesson for the baby.... how little family means. I'm not saying to have parties or everyone over, but to not even allow the parents to hold them... that is really cold."
