Is Reddit right about the products a new mom doesn't need"

Walking into a baby goods store as a parent-to-be is an eye-opening experience. For a little human who essentially needs very little, there is an awful lot available for purchase.
I found registering for our baby shower daunting. On the one hand, I felt an intense urge to make sure we would have everything we could possibly need. I did not want to be unprepared. But on the other side, I hated the idea of asking my friends and family to purchase stuff we would never use. Waste is the worst. In the end I tried to shoot the registry scanning gun down the middle, going for some big-ticket items but skipping others.
Recently I came across a Reddit thread in which a mom-to-be thought to ask experienced parents out there: "Parents of Reddit, what does a new mother NOT need" Which items in the arsenal of baby products marketed to new parents will stay in the cupboard, barely used"" Take a look at some of the answers she received...
Simwisesucks: Pretty much everything we bought was pointless and only lasted a couple of uses: clothes, baby gadgets, most toys... but the most pointless thing was baby booties or baby shoes. They don't walk anywhere! Socks fulfill the same function.
However things like my Medela breast pump, our Sleepyhead and Teetha teething powder were indespensible. Everyone is different though.
