I always loved the novelty of a beautiful positive pregnancy test. It took me three miscarriages and three pregnancies to have my three beautiful children. Those double lines on my pregnancy tests just made me feel so happy. They also somehow made me feel like I was in control in those early weeks of pregnancy when you just have to wait and hope that it's a viable one.
If you've ever had a miscarriage you know exactly what I'm talking about.
When I was pregnant with our third child, Valentina, who is now 2 years old, I took 22 tests.
I'm not exaggerating, and I'm not even a tiny bit ashamed of that number.
I took the first one on a whim after having a dream about my mom. I only dream about my mom when I'm pregnant. That first test, taken 6 days before my period was due, had the tiniest, faded second pink line. I frantically texted my three trusted friends pics of the test taken from different angles, with and without contrast, in the sunlight and not in the sunlight. They told me to chill and wait a few days to confirm.
I did not do that.
Instead I piled my two small children into the car at 7 a.m. the next morning, drove to the nearest CVS and spent my life savings on pregnancy tests. I bought them all: pink lines, blue lines, digital tests, dollar tests. I went home and took one test. It was positive. Having depleted my fluids I then spent my morning drinking water and impatient...
