It's almost time to count down: The 7 best Advent calendars for 2017

My fairly religious family prefers the fun, toy-based, non-religious Advent calendars, so for us the best 2017 Advent calendars contain toys that can be played with year-round, and work well with toys our kids may already have.
Our elf brings the Advent calendar as a surprise on December 1, and my kids love thinking about which calendar he might bring this year.

My kids are Star Wars-obsessed despite never seeing any of the films. LEGO hits the Advent calendar concept out of the park. The calendar comes as a box with 24 punch-outs. A little LEGOÂ character, vehicle, or the like are inside, and the instructions for making it are on the back of the punch-out. 2. LEGOÂ City Advent Calendar (Amazon, $29.99)
If your child loves LEGO but not Star Wars, this is a fun Advent calendar to buy for your child. Lego is fun for all age groups (except really little ones who could choke) and the pieces obviously work with all the LEGO you find in your house. The exact holiday theme changes every year, so your child could receive a Lego Advent calendar every year without getting bored.
