Prayers, well-wishes and thoughts are needed today for the Spears family. Maddie Aldridge, the daughter of Jamie Lynn Spears, is currently in stable but critical condition following a terrifying accident.
The 8-year-old, whose aunt is Britney Spears, was involved in an ATV crash in Louisiana on Sunday. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department tells E! News that Maddie crashed the Polaris she was driving into a pond. Her family, including her mother and stepfather, were nearby watching her ride when the accident occurred.
According to the police report, Maddie turned the ATV to the right in order to avoid running over a drainage ditch, but then over-corrected. When the off-road vehicle crashed into the pond she was instantly submerged with it -- and trapped. Within seconds, Jamie Lynn, her husband, and others ran to the pond and jumped in. Though they rushed to rescue Maddie, they reportedly couldn't release her because of the vehicle's safety netting and her seatbelt.
An ambulance arrived on the scene within two minutes, and they were able to free Maddie. According to a source, CPR was performed on the young girl before she was taken to the nearby hospital.
