Love Halloween" Here's a checklist to help you do it right
by Maggie Downs posted in Life
Some people count down the days until Christmas. But me" I can't wait for Halloween.
I'm lucky enough to have given birth to someone who shares my passion.
On my side is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which just issued its annual warning about eye safety. The CDC's focus is on decorative contact lenses worn without a prescription, which can lead to eye scratches, eye sores, infections, and vision loss. (Same goes for sparkly glitter in your eyes, natch.)
No matter how enthusiastic you are about Halloween (guilty), don't purchase decorate contact lenses from online shops, costume stores, flea markets, beauty salons, or anyone else who isn't your legit eye doctor.
Along with the CDC, the Food and Drug Administration has issued some additional Halloween safety guidelines. When you're getting decked out:
? Wear costumes that say ?flame resistant? on the label. If you make your costume, use flame-resistant fabrics such as polyester or nylon.
? Wear bright, reflective costumes or add strips of reflective tape so you?ll be more visible; make sure the costumes aren?t so long that you?re in danger of tripping.
? Wear makeup and hats rather than masks that can obscure your vision.
? Test the makeup you plan to use in advance. Put a small amount on the arm of the person who will be wearing it. If a rash, redness, swelling, or other signs of irritation develop where the makeup was applied, that's a sign of a possible allergy....
